South Dublin County Council is the latest local authority to due to meet on Monday to decide whether it will nominate David Norris as a presidential candidate.
Both Mr Norris and former MEP Dana Rosemary Scallon are continuing efforts to get nominations from either four local authorities or 20 Oireachtas members.
Kilkenny, Roscommon and Carlow are also due to meet on Monday.
Other councils are likely to meet and at least one, Fingal, is expected to back Mr Norris.
There are indications Donegal County Council may back Dana after it emerged Fianna Fáil councillors have secured a special meeting of the council on Tuesday.
Last night, Waterford independent TD John Halligan signed Mr Norris’ papers.
Mr Halligan had earlier deserted Mr Norris after the controversy that forced the Senator to quit the contest during the summer.
